Overview and History of Rat Terriers

Rat terriers are a breed of dog crossed with the manchester terrier and the short haired fox terrier. The purpose for the crossbreeding was to design a dog to hunt for rodents. Rat Terriers origonated in England in the early 1800's. They are very entergetic dogs that are very determined to please there masters. This makes the breed very protective of thier master and close friends. Socialization of Rat Terriers at an early age critical. The key with training any animal is patiance and consistancy.
